Our ocean supports more than just essential resources for marine life, food, energy, and transportation. It’s the lifeblood of our country. The seafood industry alone supported 1,394,833 jobs—generating $153.3 billion in sales in 2014. Between the commercial and recreational fishing, aquaculture, maritime, renewable energy, and defense industries, the ocean economy annually adds over $352 billion to the US GDP and supports 3.1 million American jobs.
Ocean Conservancy is working to support the millions of people whose lives and livelihoods depend on a healthy ocean. Ocean planning supports the coordination needed between industries to ensure the ocean is shared equitably, efficiently, and sustainably. This keeps our coastal communities strong and our ocean vibrant.
